Northern Lights (NL) is 95% indica and 5% sativa, with THC levels ranging from 16% to 21% and a low CBD content of roughly 0.1%. NL is a mix between Afghani and Thai sativa strains that delivers euphoric, sedative, and “couch lock” effects. Because it is a stable strain with uniform development patterns, NL has become a classic cannabis strain used in many breeding programs.
The exact origin of Northern Lights is unknown, while some sources indicate it was produced in the 1970s by a breeder known as “The Indian” in Washington. There were 11 different versions of NL, with the first two and fifth being the most popular. NL has won the High Times Cannabis Cup numerous times and is one of the parents of prize-winning strains such as Super Silver Haze (SSH), NL#5 x Haze, and the CBD-rich Nordle.
